Spot welding machine maintenance and troubleshooting

A well maintained spot welding machine not only maintains its original performance, but also extends its lifespan. So, it is necessary to regularly pay attention to the maintenance and repair work of the welding machine. When using a new welding machine or a welding machine that has been out of use for a long time, a visual inspection, wiring inspection, and insulation gun inspection should be conducted before powering on. When using a spot welding machine, it should be operated according to the product manual and should not be used under excessive load. All conductive joints must be firm and reliable. The welding machine should be kept clean regularly. Strictly prevent iron filings, screws, and nuts from falling into the interior of the spot welding machine. If a malfunction occurs, the cause should be analyzed and eliminated in a timely manner. There are several possible faults that may occur.


(1) When the fuse of the spot welding machine is blown, it should be checked whether the fuse is compatible with the power of the welding machine, and whether the primary circuit part is in contact with the cover or iron plate

(2) If there is a strong buzzing sound in the spot welding machine or moving iron core, check whether the coil is short circuited and whether the brake screw or spring of the moving iron core is too loose.

(3) The shell of the spot welding machine is electrified, and it should be checked whether the primary and secondary wires or windings touch the shell, and whether the ground wire is firmly and reliably connected.

(4) The spot welding machine transformer is overheated, the transformer winding is short circuited, or the load is overloaded.

(5) The voltage of the spot welding machine is insufficient and cannot start the arc. It should be checked;

① Power supply voltage,

② Is the joint loose,

③ Are the primary and secondary cables too thin or too long, with a high voltage drop,

④ Is there a partial short circuit in the primary and secondary windings.

(6) The welding current is too low or unstable, or the output current of the welding machine is abnormal. The welding current is too low, which may be due to the wire being too long, loose joints, high resistance, the wire being wound into a disk shape, excessive inductance, or poor contact between the cable and the workpiece. The unstable position of the moving iron core during welding can cause unstable current. A short circuit in the inductive coil can cause excessive current, insulation damage in the iron core magnetic circuit, eddy currents, and a decrease in output current.
